Craft and Powder
– A Film by Lili Mekdachi
Craft & Powder, the 14-minute debut short film by Lili Mekdachi, is a poetic exploration of lost friendships and the surprising ways life brings people back together.
The film captures a single moment in Paris in 1977, when Jess, now a young artist, unexpectedly encounters Billy, a childhood friend from her year in San Diego a decade earlier.
The two met as 10-year-old neighbors in 1967 California, sharing an unbreakable bond, only to be separated when Jess’s family returned to Paris.
Their worlds diverged, and they lost all contact — until this fateful moment in Paris.
With its lyrical narrative and evocative cinematography, Craft & Powder is a meditation on the resilience of human connection and the echoes of shared memories.
Lili Mekdachi captures both the innocence of youth and the poignancy of reunion, crafting a visually poetic homage to friendship across time.
